Turn of the Page

© 2006 Gene Lipps

Got up at sunrise
Quietly closing the latch on the door
Stepping outside
As the daylight unfolds
And colors the scene in our eyes

Maybe go for a walk
Down by the beach
With the smell of sea salt
Hot sand under our feet
The horizon is wide and hides
All that could possibly be

Maybe tonight we'll go dancing
Put on some nice clothes
Let the wine set the mood
The moonlight escorting the south wind
A witness to our own middle age blues

We've been working too hard
Lately, it seems
Because the luck of the draw
Got us chasing our dreams
And each day that goes by is
Another turn of the page in our lives

Moving on down this road
Partners with time
Finding the words
Completing the rhyme
And follow the changes
That seldom seem easily known

Babe, we're never through taking chances
We've been here before
With scarcely a clue
Turn your face to the west See the setting sun
Dream as you will about things that come true

Each day that goes by is
Another turn of the page in our lives.
